what.the.waitlist?

Dear Lia,

Thank you for applying to Teach For America and for the time you have invested in the interview process. Our Selection Committee is impressed by your record of past achievement, leadership potential, and commitment to expanding educational opportunity for children in low-income communities.

This year, we have seen unprecedented interest in Teach For America. Due to the number of applications we expect to receive over the course of the year, we have implemented a waitlist for the 2009 corps. While the Selection Committee has admitted some candidates and denied admission to others, the committee has recommended you for the waitlist. We are actively working to accommodate the number of promising candidates we expect to receive throughout the year.

We recognize that you were expecting a final decision today and apologize for any inconvenience this delayed notification may cause. At this time, we do not need any additional information about your candidacy.

We appreciate your commitment and continued interest and will update you on your waitlist status on January 20, 2009.

Sincerely,

Joshua Griggs
Vice President, Admissions

Never did like those TFAers. They couldn't answer the most fundamental questions I had.

hi lia...i don't know you, but i just stumbled across your blog and wanted to commiserate with you...lol.

i got waitlisted when i applied at the third deadline, and i was really surprised as well. i expected anything but this, so i was completely floored. after reading some blogs about how many people got the waitlist from the first two deadlines, i have decided to withdraw my application entirely, as i can't imagine i'll get a place in dc whatsoever. i've decided to move there in a few weeks anyway and get into the non-profit sector.

anyway...i really hope everything works out for you. their process is pretty intensive, and if you're anything like me, getting put on hold indefinitely probably threw you for a frustrated loop. i wish you well in the future, and i hope you find something you love to do!

so i'm currently sitting in a tfa professional development session. it's been over a year since i applied and approximately a half year now since i was accepted and have been working at it. i actually pushed it out of my plans until i was taken off the waitlist, and since have been wondering if it was actually the right decision to accept.
more on this in a recent post to come, i promise.
